The Mobilewarriors Code

Last three days I’ve met Pat Teoh & Yati Amzah from Paper and Toast. They wanted to know more about Officekami and invited me for a tea. While discussing and bombing their minds with what Officekami/Mobileoffice is, Yati told me

“wow you even have a sort of code of conduct”

And the day before I’ve met them, I’ve twitted about that we/mobilewarriors should be assistive. In my mind, I have already planned some of the rules so i thought, it is the right time to spill it over, at least before I forget.

Behold, this is The MobileWarriors Code

====================================

One has to go out of their permanent office.

The most basic rule. If you do not go out from your office and if you do not doing your work at mobileoffices you are not mobile warriors. But when you step inside any of places that are not office, but you’re doing your job. Then you’ve become one Mobile warriors. So step out from your office (even it is home office), and become one of us, Mobilewarriors.

One has to be assistive and courtesy.

During your adventure as Mobilewarriors, one may met someone else who in dire need. If you’ve at your mobile office and you saw another seems-to-be mobilewarriors looking for plug, point them the plug that you knew. If you have plug extensions, then share it with them. If they’re looking at the plug and you’re battery already charged, give them the plug so they could charge too. If you’re mobile-office-ing at a fast food joint, make sure to occupy a single or two seater table. If you didn’t have a choice but to occupy 4 seater table, then make sure there still other seat for other customers to have their meals on. If the area become jampacked during lunch hour, leave the places and give area to others who really need it.

One has to spend at mobileoffices.

When you’re working at those mobileoffices, buy some food and drinks to support their business. You’re using their resources so it is unethical to just using their WiFi or electricity without paying a penny. Buy even just a cup of coffee to support them.

One has to be careful with their surroundings.

A mobilewarriors should be alert and aware with their surroundings. Never ever leave the laptop unattended. Our laptop is our most precious weapon in our line of job so how can you fight without your spear a.k.a laptop? Bring Kensington Lock or do your work with your friend in that case. Or ask friendly staff to guard over your laptop in case you’ve need to be away.

====================================

That is, 4 code of conduct to become one of us, Mobile Warriors. Hope you can use it as a guideline before calling yourself a Mobile warriors :)

Officekami Warriors List

Thanks for those who’ve added to the list. Here below are the list of Mobile Warriors who shared their location and could be your mobile-office-mate. Before I reveal the list, let’s read, the tenth commandments of Mobile-Office-mates

  1. You must realize it is still working. Avoid chatting nonsense for long hours, unless both of you guys agree to chit-chatting and lepak-ing.
  2. The kind of chit-chat that is allowed, is the kind that is short and sweet and work related. Like “hey check out this SmashingMagazine review” or “hey it’s raining”. Or maybe “hey what’s wrong with my CSS” meh!
  3. Twit/email the person that you want to co-working with beforehand. Ask if they’re available and like to co-working with you. This is to avoid any unnecessary things in example you came and the other warriors was meeting their clients at that time.
  4. And for the person who get the co-working request from others, please do fast background check. Only allow people you comfortable co-working with, working with you.
  5. So it is best to plan a day or two day ahead to co-work together.
  6. If it’s possible, car-pooling to the officekami location. Save the earth la wei!
  7. Still to keep your personal belongings secured. Never ever to trust a new friend.
  8. And if both of you have a free time, do a technology transfer. Learn something new from other else.
  9. All the rule above, up to you to follow or not. There’s no penalty nor summons. It’s just common sense.
  10. Lastly, I, and Officekami, if it’s defined as an entity, will not be held responsible for any misuse of the list. The names and twitter ID appear on the list with the consent of the warriors. Should the warriors suddenly felt it’s unsafe to reveal their daily or weekly location, mail me ikhwandotnazriatflavertdotcom to remove your list. Of course, only you geeks can read my email previously.

So here below, are the list of Mobile Warriors.

Who needs who for the win?

Peace be upon you mobile warriors. Now, for Officekami Friday Sermon ( much alike Islamic Friday Prayer, before they pray, have to listen to sermon ) I’m going to talk about…. Who needs who ?

Actually regarding this topic, I’ve been thinking about it weeks ago. Just didn’t have time to wrote about it. Then today, comes a wake up call for me.

If you didn’t understand malay, Noktahhitam, ranting about Web Dev problem in Malaysia, late payments.

I do agree with him.

From my perspective, web industry is an underpaid industry. Now I don’t want to talk about big shot agency who house 20++ developers that may range from Information Architects or Bug Tester, or just CSS designer or copywriter. These big shot agency usually doesn’t face this problem because they have high capitals and high turn overs. They may only deal with industry or brands.
