Cafe’s Discount Card Comparison

Aha. Now that I guess most of you benefitted from the last Officekami Discount Meal Sheet last week, I believe you find this useful too, Discount Card Comparison.

Clicking on the page will view the bigger version of the picture. Alternatively, you can also download Officekami Discount Card Comparison PDF version and stick it on your partition wall, if you still not practicing #mobileoffice :p (because if you mobileoffice, you’ll miss that partition wall )

The resource of that Old Town White Coffee Citizen Card promotion was taken from Longlibra here. And the card picture is from Mietos. Since I don’t have Old Town Card.

Looking forward to hear your feedback, and spread the news fellas!

Discount Meal Sheet

Apparently I have much time to kill so I created this based on my experience

Click on the image above to see bigger version, And you may download PDF version (A4) so you could stick it on your office space. Now download > Officekami Discount Meal Sheet.

Few things to take account to

KFC & McDonalds = Non-ergonomic chairs. Noise, and may only have few plugs ( but certain McDonalds have a lot of plug )

Secret Recipe = Their WiFi is protected by Streamyx Zone. Lately, they open a connection. Kindly ask the server first.

Old Town = Non-ergonomic chairs. Few exclusive oldtown do have comfy chairs. One of it is Bangsar South.

Coffee Bean = their Breakfast meal only coffee/tea-refillable before 11AM.

San Francisco Coffee = Non-uniformed rules on ‘Buy One Free One’ (BOFO). In Menara UOA Bangsar, you can buy BOFO after lunch. In Ampang Point, BOFO only available during weekends.

Above all, kindly ask the waiter if there’s WiFi available at the outlet.

If you’re a great graphic designer, then feel free to redesign this cheat sheet. It is under attributions/share-alike. Just credit back us okay :) And feel free to reblog this :D

App Showdown – Teambox

The second App Showdown is Teambox. I myself tried few Team collaboration tools. Namely Bantam Live. Then last two weeks I remember fellow Mobilewarriors Arzumy/Hakim Albsrawy twitted about Teambox. Since Flavert/Weddingkami work remotely in every own spaces, we need few stuff like virtual whiteboards or service to share project updates.

Since I’m a fan of desktop apps, most of screenshot is desktop app version. Don’t worry, still the same with webview.

Let me start with an Overview Panel when you login to your Teambox

When you login, you can see the overview of your Projects. Definition: Projects in Teambox is a project that being run in a company. However, since we want to use the apps for free, I decided that Weddingkami is a Project. And all projects received by clients will be defined as Tasks.

Protip: BOFO San Francisco Coffee

At certain San Francisco Coffee in Malaysia, they have Buy One Free One (BOFO) promo. But it is not same in all branches. Ampang Point have this promo only on weekends but ends before 8PM. And Menara UOA Bangsar have this promo during weekdays which is after lunch. The deal is to buy any of Extreme Frappes, and get another for free. Must be either Regular or Large. While this BOFO may seem normal, let me take it to the extreme.

What you can do is, buy the Extreme promo (Buzz, latte, Mocha, vanilla, chocolate ) and get another one for free. Then, ask the barista to keep another one inside the freezer. So you can work up to 1-3 hours with one cup. Then, since we need some slight rest, go outside the cafe and told the barista that ‘I’ll be back’. After taking your fun time, go back to the cafe, ask for the one that they kept, and then continue working.

Be aware that the coffee inside the freezer are more intense and strong. And DO NOT kept the coffee with your skipped cream, coz your cream will be a bit funny. Saw that before, and didn’t know how it taste, since I skip the cream always. And with this method, I successfully work for 7-8 hours.

I’m not being cheap. I’ve become cost effective :p – As what @cerventus from Malaysia Entrepreneurs said :p

I’ll post more and more Cost Effective tip here, so keep coming to this blog. If you have some, come, share it :)

1st year of Officekami

One year before, I said Hello World.

Within this one year, Officekami has reviewed 120 Locations and 15 articles. Err the articles is a bit few.

And to date, @Nazroll from Redboot Solutions has elevated the presence of Officekami by hacking it and WIN FOR IT WEI! during Yahoo OpenHack Southeast Asia, and even did a mobile test version for Officekami site.

And day by day, me myself assisting in suggesting fellow mobile warriors finding nearby mobileoffice via @officekami twitter. Even it’s not much of a followers, just 77, but I’m intrigued and amazed at the reception. It even featured at InfoMalaya and Amanz.my, just few tech blogs here.

Imagine you got a phone call asking where to work, that’s how crazy, well at least for me.

and thanks to bunch of mobile warriors for joining first co-working event in conjunction with Earth Hour,  thanks to our sponsor of that day, San Francisco Coffee.

I’ve given talks to TEDxMMU on how Mobileoffice could save the world, and at BarcampKL too. No available slides uploaded, sooner seriously.

And I must thank all for the support. But I would not stop here.

I will propose a Bill of Telecommuting in Malaysia. Okay at this point you should laugh.

Officekami is a Weddingkami community project, where we share our corporate culture with others, by doing work mobile. There’s no business activity behind Officekami, and the value of Officekami is the info that will help the community.

Mobile Office for the win

Sincerely, Ikhwan Nazri

P/S: CUT THE CRAP WHY THIS POST SOUNDS SO EMO LOL!!  (maybe coz of that last line sincerely hahaha) Okay on the shorter note, I’ll will definitely bring Officekami more alive and kicking in the 2nd year. Chale!

Officekami celebrating Earth Hour

Hello all mobilewarriors! Aha. In less than a week we’ll be celebrating Earth Hour that will be held on the last Saturday of March annually. This Saturday, see all local house turning off their lights for an hour for a change. And since it falls on Saturday, which is non-working day, it is not that beneficial for us, who are working so I was thinking if I could pull an Officekami day, a day where most of mobilewarriors going out, co-working at mobileoffices to save their Office electric.

Now what are the benefit of Officekami day ?

  • Save your electricity
  • Meet other Mobilewarriors from other profession
  • To celebrate Earth Hour, a day before.

Last year during BarcampKL, I’ve stated this in my Mobileoffice presentation

Consider this
You and your department, 10 people, decided to go mobile on every Friday, or working at home
By deciding that, you’ll turn off all the electrical appliances in the office,
Wasn’t that earth day? kinda

What do you think? Read more please.

The Mobilewarriors Code

Last three days I’ve met Pat Teoh & Yati Amzah from Paper and Toast. They wanted to know more about Officekami and invited me for a tea. While discussing and bombing their minds with what Officekami/Mobileoffice is, Yati told me

“wow you even have a sort of code of conduct”

And the day before I’ve met them, I’ve twitted about that we/mobilewarriors should be assistive. In my mind, I have already planned some of the rules so i thought, it is the right time to spill it over, at least before I forget.

Behold, this is The MobileWarriors Code

====================================

One has to go out of their permanent office.

The most basic rule. If you do not go out from your office and if you do not doing your work at mobileoffices you are not mobile warriors. But when you step inside any of places that are not office doing your job, then you’ve become one Mobile warriors. So step out from your office (even it is home office), and become one of us, Mobilewarriors.

One has to be assistive and courtesy.

During your adventure as Mobilewarriors, one may met someone else who in dire need. If you’ve at your mobile office and you saw another seems-to-be mobilewarriors looking for plug, point them the plug that you knew. If you have plug extensions, then share it with them. If they’re looking at the plug and you’re battery already charged, give them the plug so they could charge too. If you’re mobile-office-ing at a fast food joint, make sure to occupy a single or two seater table. If you didn’t have a choice but to occupy 4 seater table, then make sure there still other seat for other customers to have their meals on. If the area become jampacked during lunch hour, leave the places and give area to others who really need it.

One has to spend at mobileoffices.

When you’re working at those mobileoffices, buy some food and drinks to support their business. You’re using their resources so it is unethical to just using their WiFi or electricity without paying a penny. Buy even just a cup of coffee to support them.

One has to be careful with their surroundings.

A mobilewarriors should be alert and aware with their surroundings. Never ever leave the laptop unattended. Our laptop is our most precious weapon in our line of job so how can you fight without your spear a.k.a laptop? Bring Kensington Lock or do your work with your friend in that case. Or ask friendly staff to guard over your laptop in case you’ve need to be away.

====================================

That is, 4 code of conduct to become one of us, Mobile Warriors. Hope you can use it as a guideline before calling yourself a Mobile warriors :)

Targus Spruce EcoSmart Laptop Backpack review

Hi all. How have you’ve been? it’s March already in 2010 and I hope you’ve been doing good. Well quite some time I didn’t post an Officekami sermon LOL but behold, the first review : Targus Spruce EcoSmart Laptop backpack review.

I receive this bag from Text100 Malaysia that were looking for Mobile Warriors. Targus wanted to know opinion on their latest product so here I am, offering myself to take part of it. My first laptop backpack is Golla, the older model that is side-load type. I always love backpack type rather than sling type. It is a good bag indeed for having slim-type cutting. It will be frequently mentioned too in this review because that is my baseline standard.
